The actors portraying this pair of coach-trainee has to have a good dance background yet being able to show the role’s personality and a difference of emotions.
Da Peng said that the actors for these 2 important leads is something that you can’t ask for but wholly depend on chance as they need to be both good at acting and dancing. The casting choices aren’t huge and there definitely are not many who could take on these 2 characters.
“ I often joked to Huang Bo that it is difficult to imagine how the movie will proceed if he didn’t accept my invitation. I dare not think about it. I believe any Director would want to have Huang Bo in their movies, he will give you endless surprises and help. It went exceptionally smooth this time. He didn’t even saw the entire script and accepted just on hearing the story, immediately telling when he will be free and how he’s willing to take this role. “
Chatting up to this point, Da Peng clasped his hand together and ‘thank the heavens’ laughingly. What made him relived was that Wang Yibo, who portray Chen Shuo, accepted the role readily too.
“ I have only previously met Wang Yibo on events and haven’t had the chance to really talk with him. In the spring of 2021 when we decided on the creation of OnO, the one who love dancing, can dance, is passionate about dancing is undoubtedly Wang Yibo. At that time I wrote him a letter, which pass through several hands before it reached him. Later then we added each other on WeChat and replying there, he wrote a lot to me. What moved me was how he described his passion. He wrote, making movies is his passion, dancing is also his passion and if there is something that could combine these 2 passion together, he’s very happy to be able to participate in this movie.
Because of the addition of Huang Bo and Wang Yibo, the process of writing the script was literally “words just flow right out dancing “. As they had the most suitable actors, they could base it on their personalities and image to enrich the characters. Starting from 2021, using almost 2 years, the main creative crew finished their preparations and filming. All the way till the premiere at present, Da Peng straightforwardly said “ The double Bo are very important to this movie and missing any one of them won’t be able to create the OnO of now. “

Wang Yibo once said this regarding his own take on Chen Shuo: “ I think that Chen Shuo is an especially naive and persistent person, someone whom makes people pity him. “
Chen Shuo is an ‘outwardly aloof but actually is very passionate’ youth who chases after his dreams. He is not good at talking, doesn’t talk much but is inwardly persistent and passionate about dancing. In order to enter his dream dance team, he is willing to be a reserve or a training partner; in life he and his mom rely on each other. In order to take care of his family, he took on many part time jobs, silently taking on all the responsibilities.
Wang Yibo’s dancing ability is highly compatible with Chen Shuo’s impressive one and at the same time, his portrayal brought a different kind of surprise to the audiences. The sweat drenched scene on stage during the last 20 minutes was dub especially by many to be “Wang Yibo found the role he is the most suitable for”.
Da Peng states that Wang Yibo is very immersed in his role. “ He is very into his role. When the filming started, he was still Wang Yibo. But very soon, he is Chen Shuo. During filming, he would take the initiative to tell me his understanding on many scenes and discuss with me on how to handle the details inside a scene. What he thinks is how Chen Shuo would think, so during filming, all of us call him Shuo Shuo and not Yibo. That’s how much he has meld into the role, he really like this character. “
Scriptwriter Su Biao, who has worked with Da Peng many times before, remember that Wang Yibo is someone who is very serious about acting, having very strict standards on himself in and out of character. Especially when it involves dancing which is one of his passion. He is more serious about it than others, even to the point where he doesn’t allow himself to have one misstep in dancing.
Da Peng also agrees that OnO will show the audiences a very different and passionate Wang Yibo. “ I’ve worked with Su Biao many times before and to be honest, we took many things out during the process of creating this as many scenes rely on the actors performance so removing things will make it not as complicated, because no matter on the richness or simplicity of the story, it all depends on the actors to act it out. I am very grateful to Yibo, (Huang) Bo ge and many other actors. They really do love dancing and filming. No matter if OnO will have a sequel or not, what is most attractive to me is that I truly hope to work with them again, even if it’s another story. Because working with them produce a boiling excitement and ties of emotions as like between a family. “
